What do I do if I am interested in more than one job offer?

How long are the weekly working hours?

Full-time employees work 40 hours/week with flexible working hours and trust-based worktime. Depending on the position, other working time models such as part-time are also possible.

What trainee programs does the VNR Group offer?

In the 18-month trainee programme, the trainees change departments every three months, usually within a publisher of specialist literature or a marketing department. In the 12-month trainee programmes, the trainees stay in one department and get in-depth knowledge in that particular field.

Are there specific application deadlines or fixed starting dates for the trainee positions?

The 18-month trainee programme has no fixed start dates, you can apply at any time. The 12-month trainee programmes are advertised according to the needs of the departments. Just keep an eye on our career page.

How are the trainees supervised?

Trainees have at least one permanent contact person in each department. In addition to regular feedback, a written assessment is prepared and discussed for each trainee at least every three months. This way, everyone keeps track of their individual development and strengths.

What is the application process like?

After reviewing the application documents, we start the selection process with an initial telephone interview. This is followed by an invitation to a four-hour conversation with different interview partners.

What are the chances of a permanent job offer?

We are proud of the fact that we take on more than 80% of the trainees per year for permanent positions. We as a company support and ensure the development of our junior employees.

How many hours is the weekly working time as a student?

Students can work up to 19.75 hours/week with us. However, we are flexible and will accommodate your university schedule.

Can I work more hours during my semester break?

Yes, you can work up to 40 hours a week during your semester break. Talk to your department beforehand to find out whether this additional support is actually needed.

Can I still work more than 20 hours/week during the semester break as a student assistant (€450 basis)?

Student assistants with a €450 income basis may not exceed the €450 per month even during the semester breaks.

How many vacation days do I get?

The vacation days depend on the number of hours you have worked. However, we are also very flexible here and can take pre-booked holidays into account. Just let your manager know, and together, you will find the best solution.

When can I join as a working student?

All positions are effective immediately, i.e. we look forward to you joining at the earliest possible date.

Is it possible to continue working at VNR after my studies?

There are many students who have been taken on by us after completing their studies and have gone on to take up permanent positions or trainee programs. To do this, you simply need to notify your supervisor and HR early enough of your interest and you can always look for internal positions.

Can I also work from home?

Mobile working is possible at our company. Basically, however, you also consult with the department here.

Student internship for high school students

When does the apprenticeship start?

The apprenticeship starts every year on August 1st.

How often do I have to go to vocational school?

The vocational school takes place two days a week. On the other three days, we will train you at the company. For the various apprenticeships, we work closely with vocational schools in Bonn, Cologne and Hennef.

How do I apply?

What are the application deadlines?

You can apply for our apprenticeship positions any time in the year.

What is the application process like?

After first reviewing the application documents, we start our selection process with a telephone interview. This is followed by an invitation to an online assessment before the personal interview takes place. At present, these interviews are being conducted online if preferred. It lasts three hours and gives you the opportunity to get to know us as a training company and your future tasks better. You will also meet the different people who will accompany you during your training. If required, we also offer the option of a trial day.

What are the chances of being hired after the training?

As a group of companies, we plan for the long term with our trainees and are proud that we subsequently take on more than 90% of our trainees in a permanent entry-level position.

What else do we offer our apprentices?

In addition to an attractive salary, we offer a practical and future-oriented apprenticeship. We rely on individual support from more than 30 AEVO (Ordinance on Trainer Aptitude) trainers, and regular feedback and assessment meetings. In keeping with our motto, “Shared work, shared decisions, shared responsibility”, we integrate you into our work processes in the company from day one, and thus prepare you optimally for your final exam. In addition to exciting apprenticeship projects, you can benefit from our internal training opportunities and in-house classes. We offer our employees attractive employee discounts with various regional partners. In addition, we provide you with free fruit, vegetables and drinks. At the start, you will receive your own laptop and we will cover your costs for an apprentice train ticket – a good investment thanks to our convenient location near the train station.

What is in-company training?

The in-company training (IBU) takes place once a week for 1.5 hours and is compulsory for the 1st and 2nd years of training. This is where cross-publishing content is taught, e.g., regarding the publishers of specialist literature, our customer management, data protection, etc.

How am I ensured a good education?

We have more than 30 trainers in the Group and at least as many training officers. In this way, we can ensure that every trainee in every department receives individual 1:1 support and training. By training our instructors and exchanging information with other training companies, we keep our knowledge here constantly up to date.
